Surely the experts will know well that the reference legislation for the certification and compliance of safety tips is being reviewed. Currently the EN12568S standard that regulates the parameters to be respected for manufacturers of safety tips, among the various characteristics to be respected, establishes a free space, after impact test (200 Joule) or compression (15kN), which varies from size to size of the tip; from a minimum of 19.5 for size 5 (and smaller sizes) to a maximum of 22 for size 10 (and larger sizes).
To cope with a strong demand, coming from the various manufacturers of footwear and safety boots, to be able to have increasingly performing toe caps and therefore guarantee greater comfort and convenience to work shoes, this legislation is being modified and consequently the limits to be respected and guaranteed.
Among the various discussions in the end it was decided to increase the limits mentioned above by +4mm.
Therefore the new limitations will be the following and the internal free light must necessarily be:
Size 5 (and smaller sizes) greater than or equal to 23.5mm
Size 6 greater than or equal to 24.0mm
Size 7 greater than or equal to 24,5mm
Size 8 greater than or equal to 25,0mm
Size 9 greater than or equal to 25.5mm
Size 10 (and larger sizes) greater than or equal to 26.0mm
As you can well imagine, this change will involve a real revolution in our sector, therefore structural changes to equipment, mold adjustments, and product re-certifications will be necessary.
